What Is Turf Infill?

Artificial grass infill mimics the texture and feel of the soil and natural grass. Add this crushed or graded material between the grass blades of your synthetic system so it fills the area, just like soil. You can choose a variety of materials for your artificial turf infill, from silica sand and wood chips to hemp and crumb rubber.

Why Is It Important?

Using an infill for artificial grass keeps your landscape feeling natural and creates footing to minimize slips, creating a safer environment. It attenuates shock for athletes, making it ideal for use in sports grounds, playgrounds, and recreational areas. As the infill adds some weight to your turf, it provides ballast, adding stability to your artificial turf.

In addition to improving the quality of the turf system, it boosts its longevity. Using turf infill sustains the aesthetic of your turf for years by keeping the artificial blades upright and in prime position. By creating a barrier between harmful UV rays and the backing of your synthetic turf, you protect the artificial grass system, helping it last for longer.

How to Install Artificial Grass Infill?

Step-By-Step Process

  1. First, use your power broom on the installed synthetic turf so that the artificial blades of grass are perfectly vertical. This ensures an even spread of turf infill and helps open up the synthetic turf system, creating an easier entry for the TºCool particles.

  2. Carefully open the TºCool 50lb bag with your utility knife, and fill the drop spreader with the required amount of your infill of choice.

  3. Now you are ready to apply the infill. While using the drop spreader, move sideways in parallel rows for that professional finish.

  4. Once you have covered the entire surface one time, use the power broom over the surface of the infill to create an even spread while driving it deeper into the grass.

  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you have reached your desired application rate and depth, adding more silica sand infill as you need it.

  6. Once installation of the TºCool Infill is complete, the fibers should be vertical and upright. If some areas seem flat or matted down, you might need to use more infill.

How Much Infill Should I Use?

Deciding how many pounds of infill you need depends on many factors, like the grade of infill you choose, the type of turf you plan to use, the desired depth, and the turf’s pile height.

Based on review of turf skus and specifications within the marketplace, we recommended a minimum of 2lbs per square foot of TºCool 16/30 Infill.
