About TºCool®
Cooler, Cleaner, Safer Synthetic Turf.
TºCool® — Patented Evaporative Cooling Technology for Synthetic Turf
TºCool® is the original patented cooling infill engineered to reduce synthetic turf surface temperatures by up to 50°F when hydrated. By harnessing the natural process of evaporative cooling, TºCool helps create cooler, more comfortable artificial grass for residential landscapes, athletic fields, playgrounds, commercial properties, and pet areas.
TºCool is specifically designed to extend the cooling benefits of moisture from rainfall, irrigation, humidity, or morning dew. The result is a synthetic turf system that stays cooler for longer while maintaining the durability, performance, and low maintenance that artificial grass is known for.
How Is TºCool® Infill Made?
-
TºCool® is a patented evaporative cooling infill technology engineered to drastically reduce synthetic turf surface temperatures. Inspired by nature, TºCool stores and releases moisture through a natural, sustained evaporative process, creating cooler, safer, and more comfortable synthetic turf systems for sports fields, playgrounds, pet areas, commercial landscapes, golf applications, and residential lawns. Unlike traditional infills that simply support the turf fibers, TºCool actively manages surface heat and cools synthetic turf.
-
TºCool works by storing moisture within the synthetic turf system. When the sun heats the surface, that stored moisture slowly evaporates. During evaporation, heat energy is absorbed from the turf surface, helping lower surface temperatures naturally. Rather than simply cooling the surface for a few minutes, TºCool is designed to sustain the benefits of evaporative cooling by gradually releasing moisture over time.
-
Cooling performance depends on sunlight, humidity, wind, hydration, and the specific turf system. Independent testing and real-world installations have demonstrated surface temperatures are reliably reduced 30°F–50°F, with some testing showing reductions of up to 60°F under certain conditions.
-
Synthetic turf becomes hot because turf blades absorb and radiate solar energy throughout the day. Unlike natural grass, artificial turf does not cool itself through evapotranspiration. As sunlight heats the turf fibers and infill, surface temperatures can rise significantly above the surrounding air temperature. Factors such as solar intensity, turf color, infill selection, wind, humidity, and ambient temperature all influence how hot a synthetic turf surface becomes
-
Natural grass continuously cools itself through evapotranspiration. As water moves through the plant and evaporates from the grass blades, heat energy is removed from the surface. This natural process along with a heat sink effect, helps keep grass significantly cooler than most synthetic surfaces. TºCool was developed using the same scientific principle, applying evaporative cooling technology to synthetic turf systems.
-
No. Water alone provides immediate but short-lived cooling because it quickly evaporates from the surface. Once the water is gone, the turf begins heating again under direct sunlight.
Whereas TºCool® provides a sustained cooling effect by managing the release of moisture over time . As the stored moisture gradually evaporates, TºCool continuously removes heat through evaporative cooling, providing longer-lasting cooling performance after hydration.
-
Yes, depending on weather conditions. Like natural grass, TºCool relies on moisture to create evaporative cooling. Moisture can come from rainfall, irrigation, dew, or humidity. Once hydrated, the stored moisture becomes the “charge" that powers the cooling process.
-
Cooling duration varies depending on weather conditions, humidity, solar intensity, and wind. In many climates, TºCool can continue providing cooling for up to four days after hydration, while humid environments may extend cooling even longer. Drier climates typically require more frequent hydration to maintain peak performance.
-
TºCool is a patented, independently owned evaporative cooling technology focused solely on solving synthetic turf heat. It is compatible with any synthetic turf system and combines proprietary and proven cooling performance with a spherical, dustless, and rounded silica sand.
TºCool® is also infused a bio-based, EPA-registered antimicrobial to help create cooler, cleaner, and more comfortable turf systems.
-
Yes. TºCool can be incorporated into existing synthetic turf systems. Installation methods vary depending on the existing infill and turf construction. Regardless if new installation or existing, we recommend a minimum of 2.5 lbs of T°Cool per square foot of Turf.
Please reference our TºCool Calculator for precise application rate.
-
Yes. TºCool was developed with comfort, safety, and sustainability in mind. It is non-toxic, non-hazardous, contains zero VOCs and HAPs, is not a microplastic, and incorporates a renewable, EPA-registered antimicrobial to help inhibit the growth of bacteria, mold, and mildew while reducing malodors.
-
Yes. TºCool is infused with an EPA Registered, bio-based, and 100% renewable antimicrobial technology.
Derived from a renewable resource, it helps inhibit the growth of bacteria, mold, and mildew while helping prevent stains, odors, and product degradation. Unlike many antimicrobial technologies, TºCool’s chosen Antimicrobial does not rely on heavy metals or BIOCIDES.
-
The shape of an infill particle plays an important role in long-term turf performance. Angular sands tend to lock together as traffic increases, leading to greater compaction and reduced pore space. TºCool uses a highly spherical, well-rounded silica sand that resists interlocking, helping maintain open pore spaces throughout the infill profile. These interconnected voids promote efficient water infiltration, reduce compaction, improve shock absorption, and support consistent drainage over the life of the turf system.
Combined with TºCool's patented evaporative cooling technology, this engineered sand helps create a cooler, cleaner, and higher-performing synthetic turf system.

Frequently Asked Questions
How Much TºCool® Infill Is Needed for my project?
The effectiveness of a TºCool Infused synthetic turf System depends on proper application. With today’s wide variety of turf products—each with different pile heights and face weights—the quantity of TºCool sand infill should be calibrated to the specific turf profile.
That’s why we developed the TºCool Infill Calculator.
Whether you’re a contractor, facility manager, homeowner, or installer, precision matters. Over- or under-application can compromise cooling effectiveness and long-term turf performance.
Access the calculator to calculate the exact poundage you need for your project. This ensures consistent cooling across the entire turf system and provides the right moisture retention levels to fuel the evaporative process.

Bio Based Antimicrobial.
In addition to the maximum, sustained cooling TºCool provides, TºCool is Infused with a non-metal, BIO BASED Antimicrobial.
Derived from the renewable resource, Chitosan, TºCool’s Antimicrobial additive helps to prevent the growth of bacteria, mold and mildew, and prevents stains, odors and product deterioration. is sustainable, renewable, hypo-allergenic, and biodegradable.
TºCool’s Antimicrobial is EPA Registered and the optimum choice for a healthy and long lasting synthetic turf system.
Sustainable + Biodegradable
Chitosan supply DOES NOT impact the Food Supply Chain.
The extraction process sustainably removes crustacean shells from the Waste Stream by using Seafood byproducts to produce the active ingredient Chitosan.
Chitosan is an abundant Renewable Resource. Between 2,000 and 3,000 metric tons of crab shell waste is produced annually.
Chitosan has a century-long history of use in Cosmetics, Shampoos, Medical Bandages, Toothpaste, and Dietary Supplements.
Chitosan is Biodegradable.
Chitosan is not a Dermal Sensitizer, Hypo-Allergenic.
